Boxing Day Contra Dance Thursday Dec 26, 4-7:00
Please come join our annual Boxing Day Contra Dance. This is a great opportunity to share Contra with your family, friends, and out of town guests who you’ve been telling about dancing but were too shy to go without you.
The lesson starts at 3:30 and dancing goes from 4 to 7. We’ll have a potluck snack table set up all afternoon, so bring those extra holiday treats you have hanging around the house to share with friends.
This year Jacqui Grennan will be calling your favorite dances.
A fixture in the Los Angeles contra dance community since 2010. She calls paying special attention to transitions, connectedness and timing. Jacqui currently calls at contra dances around the nation and in her home community of Los Angeles, CA. Jacqui produced and organized the 3rd Saturday contra dance series held at the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena, CA, from 2014 to 2016.
Force for Nature, (Jeff Spiro on Keyboard, Ashley Broder on Mandolin, Audrey Knuth on Fiddle) will fill the stage with music to move your feet and heart.
Ashley’s myriad talents and musical accomplishments defy easy description or classification. Fluent on mandolin (both acoustic and electric), violin, and cello, Ashley crafts melodies, sonic textures and haunting harmonies that distinguish her works easily from the norm. Her original compositions draw inspiration from an eclectic range of genres, including folk, jazz, classical, pop, and rock. www.ashbroder.com
Audrey has made a name for herself in the music community as a dance fiddler specializing in Contra, English dance, New England, Celtic, and Old Time tunes, and as an audio engineer. With her bands, The Free Raisins, The Gaslight Tinkers, Audacious (with Larry Unger) and Wake Up Robin, she has traveled across the US and Europe, playing for dances and concerts. She’s equally adept at teaching workshops, and has been on staff at various camps including CDSS English week at Pinewoods, Ashokan Northern Week, BACDS American week, and Halsway Manor. Audrey’s fiddle playing is rhythmically lively and spontaneous; she’s guaranteed to get you up and dancing.
Jeff is one of the premiere dance pianists of the nation. Known for his energetic style and creative arrangements, Jeff has brought his talents to dances and festivals throughout the nation. He is an energetic and creative dance pianist as well as a contra dance caller based southern California. Jeff is a core member of Contra and English Country dance bands including The Syncopaths, Rhythm Raptors, Chopped Liver, and Jax.
